Goa government aims for self-reliance in education; start online courses
Panaji, Sep 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) On Monday, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at the launch of online courses said his government had set itself the goal of making Goa self-reliant in all sectors including education.
Sawant was speaking after the launch of the flagship program “MANDAVI” (Mentoring and Nurturing Digital and Virtual Initiatives) initiated by the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE).
Sawant said that in the villages, students who are unable to take direct lessons will have the option of continuing their studies and completing their courses in online mode on the “Mandavi” channel.
“I am very happy with this initiative which will help students complete their education. I congratulate those who contributed to it,” he said.
Sawant said the MANDAVI is an initiative of DHE for the development of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to provide high quality courses to thousands and millions of learners around the world.
“MOOCA is a mode of learning where students can take digital higher education courses virtually,” he said.
“High quality education will be made available to all who wish to learn. I have set a goal to make Goa a self-governing state in all sectors be it agriculture, industries and also in the sector education,” he said.
“I am confident that our state will achieve excellence and become a model for other states,” he added.
He called on young people to make the most of such an initiative to improve their knowledge and education.
Sawant said the MOOC courses currently under development at DHE are based on the University Grants Commission (UGC) curriculum and choice-based credit system, which are proposed to be offered in credit transfer on the Study Networks of Active Learning for Aspiring Young Minds (SWAYAM) platform, a program initiated by the central government to provide various courses that students can take online.
He said the state will draw skilled labor from these online courses.
“Those who are already working or those looking for a job can benefit from additional qualifications through this. It is an opportunity to compete nationally and internationally,” he said.
